#1 New image: 05/11/2024
"Pipes" - Walking through Kirkland alleyway in downtown Hamp and this caught my eye

Rolleicord III type 2 TLR with Minolta IV meter
Kentmere 120, 400 rated at box speed
Exposure was 1/250th at f/19
Film developed using Barry Thornton's two-bath (Part A: D23 and Part B: sodium metaborate) for 5 minutes in both Part A and B at 76.1F/24.5C - 76.1/24.5 seems to be the magic numbers at this time
Multitone RC pearl paper exposed for 8 seconds at f/11
Prints developed in Liquidol 1:9, Sprint vanilla stop and Hypam fixer

The following image was done around the time when I was still new to this forum. The subject caught my eye and I went into it for a closer look.

#1 - Old image: 10/09/2019
"Rock Statue Pattern"

Hasselblad 501C with 120mm f/4.0 Makro Planar lens, Bogen tripod and Minolta IV meter
Ilford Pan F Plus 50, 120 film at EI 25
Exposure was 1/30th at f/6.7
Film developed in Pyrocat HD in Glycol 1:1:100 for 12 minutes at 70F/21C
Ilford Multigrade IV RC luster paper exposed for 24 seconds at f/11 with an Ilford Multigrade #4 contrast filter
Prints developed in Liquidol at 1:9, Sprint vanilla stop and Hypam fixer, TF-5 was used for the film.


The latter part of 2019 was a new beginning of analog photography for me. Had been away from it for a long time. When covid hit I stopped again but came back in the latter part of 2023.

Exposure 125th, 100th on the Rollei, at f/13
Film developed in two-bath D23 and metaborate for 5 minutes in both Part A and B at 76.1F/24.5 - 76.1/24.5 seems to be the magic numbers at this time
Prints developed in Liquidol 1:9, Sprint vanilla stop and Hypam fixer

Leica III PlusX. Negative scan. Some graduated exposure adjustment - my shutter seems to need a bit of adjustment.

Sand on the shore of Lake Simcoe, Ontario.

Don_ih, that sand formation one really looks like pictures we've been getting from Mars, have you been on a trip lately?

Ivo Stunga, that interior picture with all of those descending windows, is really impressive.

I've never been out of the country, I'd probably notice being taken off the planet.

Here's an old one. From about 8 years ago - no idea where it was, but not Mars.


Leica M4-2. I normally can't remember the film but I know this was Foma Retropan.

@Ivo Stunga: The inside building mage with the windows caught my eye too. Love the contrast and composition.
@Don_ih: The shape of the sand resembles a segment of an embossed map. This is really cool Was the film for the building image developed in Rodinal by any chance?
@Mick Fagan: I like the simple repeat flow with the curtain.
@macfred: I like the light pattern and the arrangement of the chairs.

That I cannot possibly answer. I had an envelope of the Retropan developer and used that for a few rolls. But I also used D76. I know I had some Adox Rodinal at the time. Could have been any of those.
I kinda love and hate that film.

@chuckroast This was PLusX from a 400-foot roll of motion picture film. Some people say that it's somewhat different. I don't pay enough attention to those kinds of details to say. I also have 3x4 and 4x5 PlusX and a few quite old 35mm rolls. I also have another bulk roll that has some sporadic fogging (I got it in a bulk loader that had been opened), so I always have to take two exposures when I use that....

Yes, I have both the 35mm respooled movie film that Photographer's Warehouse sold some time ago (now they are selling respooled Double X) as well as original Kodak 120 and 4x5 in the freezer.

I have yet to shoot enough of it recently to feel like I've mastered how the film works, even though I used back in the age of dinosaurs ...

I think I mostly ruined a good part of my bulk roll with a mixture of bad exposure and bad developing. I now pretty consistently call iso100 outside and about 50 indoors*. That's to go with Kodak's 125/80 rating. Not sure if the sheet film had the same rating. The sand picture was developed in instant mytol - I've had good luck with that developer.

* I should say that it's an estimate, anyway, since I almost never look at a meter.

New - yesterday - Exakta Varex VX testing the SK lens that had a frozen aperture (freed it) - tmax 100 parodinal 1:25 negative scan (although I made a 5x7 print this morning)

Rocks by the train tracks. Is it a pattern? Is it a lack of pattern?

I do so love these kind of abstracts. I just printed one yesterday of larger rocks but in much the same spirit.

Nicely done.

Thanks to Don-ih's excellent example above, I remembered this old (2019) one!

TMY-2 in a Mamiya C330 - the 65mm lens.
Scanned from the negative, with the tone adjusted digitally to mimic the image tone of an 11"x11" print.
I was too lazy to scan the print in two parts and stitch for this purpose.
