Ok, got a few days left in this MSA ... So here's a couple of old images:

OLD ... February 2020 ~ RB67 Portra 800 ~ f 22/32 @125

Favorite ruin site:

Palatki Heritage Site.
Image was taken from above, off of the trail, with a Ranger who accompanied me. As we sat, admiring what type of shot we both wanted to take, he with digital, myself with film, I noticed a glint of white that captured my eye. Just a few feet away, in front of us! ... Between us and the direction of the ruin. ... We leaned forwarded and pulled from the sand outcropping of soil and rock, a small white quartz arrowhead, which we gave to the Ranger, ... and he received as a surprised gift.

BTW: At the end of the video, it shows some rock art. "Native American Indian rock art includes two styles of creation: pictographs, which are drawings or paintings made on rocks, and petroglyphs, which is when the images have been carved into the rock." The ones shown in this video from Palatki, are mostly pictographs, and are rarely found outside of protected areas, like caves, overhangs, ect, as the weather has diminished them after all the years they have been there.

It was good you gave the arrowhead to the ranger, by law people are not allowed to take anything from a National Park including rocks, pine cones and arrowheads.

Favorite rock art site:

Bar V Bar Heritage Site. Is a pictograph site, which are images made into the rock.
This was the rock calendar area for the Southern Sinagua Indians who lived and gardened in this area. The upper rock in this image fell out, a couple of years ago, but the lines of the two, in the image, and now just one rock, would direct attention to a chiseled symbol on the rock, which would indicate when to plant, when to slow. The shadows changed with the seasons. At this time, in winter, very little of the wall is lit, as the sun is father south, and as summer comes, the sun climbs higher in the sky, and at summer solstice, it lights up the whole wall as seen in this image.

Thanks for adding the two pictures from the heritage sites. I like how the shadows highlight some the pictographs. Seems as if you arrived at the location at just the right time of day on that Summer Solstice.

Oh my... hehe, the entries we have had on this OLD and NEW theme of our Favorite Things, have been grand!

Some of past memories, .. and those of current reality, with a twist that takes you beyond what you believe you can
see when looking at a light bulb.

Reminds me of a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson ...
" ... Old and new make the warp and woof of every moment.
There is no thread that is not a twist of these two strands. ..."

So which will be the winner be russljames ... one of the OLD, or one of the NEW?

I just remembered this OLD one. (And in my time zone I have over three hours left!)

I had troubles along the way a few years ago. I was almost two hundred kilometers from home and my motorycycle started coughing quite badly.

I couldn't get it running properly, but then these guys appeared from nowhere and offered help. Helpful people are another of my favourite things!

Thank you everyone for submitting your amazing photographs and providing friendly conversation during this MSA. I apologize for this slight delay in being able to make my selection as yesterday was an exceptionally long day of work for me.

I enjoyed seeing and learning about your favorite things. From scenic trails, vintage motorcycles, boats, historic sites, hand tools, money, and light bulbs. Of the collection, there was one image that became my favorite. And that is Marttiko’s picture from last spring of his motorcycle, parked at an angle on a road in wooded surroundings.

Congratulations, Marttiko! It’s now your turn to choose the MSA theme for February.
