Photograph a family heirloom - something handed down from one generation to another in your family. It could be a bible, jewellery, a car or any object that was handed down to you.

To get things going this is my WPPD submission which I got around to printing yesterday. (and which gave me the idea for this month's theme). These tools were handed down from my Father though I don't think he ever used them. I used my old French Demaria, Lapierre and Mollier 13x18 camera which I've adapted to take 5x7 holders. I knocked up a lensboard for the 0.6mm pinhole. Exposure was about 19 minutes and I used pre-flashed Fotospeed RCVC paper. Contact printed on Ilford MG paper.

The garden pot in this print we 'inherited' from my wife's family garden when the house was sold. It's not a family heirloom as such but was handed on to us. here's some ideas for heirlooms that may inspire.

Thanks for the link! Actually, I've been thinking of many of the items mentioned there, as my parents are getting old and will want to downsize their home in the next year or two (pandemic-willing), and I've been thinking about which items I would like to inherit when the time comes. Living in a tiny place in Japan means I'll have to be really precise in what can come with me, hopefully my brother will be willing to take a few more pieces so we can preserve a bit of our parents' legacy. For better or for worse, my parents are not nostalgic or sentimental people, so we have very little in the way that may have come from grandparents or other family members. It was always a frustration to me as a child, because I loved those things. The irony is now I have many things that I would love to pass onto my children, but since I'll never have any, it's all a moot point.

In any event, the only things I think I have with me at the moment are a leatherman tool my dad gave me, and a few pieces my mom has crocheted. Neither of them are heirlooms though. I'll see what I can do.

We're lucky in that we have a bit of room here and we believe in re-use so we took/ take in a lot of things that would have been thrown out when family downsizing took place.At the link I was suprised at recipes been included - and, as daft as it is - never thought of photographs! Good luck with your ideas.

In my case, there is always some Kodak memorabilia ....

what better heirloom- my father's old camera
This is a Petri 2.8 "Color Corrected" rangefinder, purchased in a military exchange in Japan around 1960. He took some great slides with it in the early 1960's, many of which I still have. The camera was not stored well but was CLA'd and cleaned in 2017 and is working very well now. This shot is a cropped scan of a ProImage 100 negative, Nikon N90s and 28-105 D zoom
