For the next round Mornings

Anything relating to that topic. It can be a scenic landscape, street shot, indoor or outdoor, where you eat, where you go; whatever. Just something "morning" from you

Here's an example which was taken some time ago. Outside the lodge in Death Valley, California, early January 2017. Camera used was a Moskva 5 folder (6x6 mask) and Fuji 160S film, scan from negative. Not going back to do pictures there in July or August, though!

This sounds like it will be a fun theme.
Here is a link to the current MSA rules and guidelines
https://www.photrio.com/forum/threa...vised-2015-07-further-revised-2019-07.126124/
A reminder that images must be analogue capture, and taken no earlier than July 1, 2021.
I'll do my mini-moderator (actually moderator) bit with Sticky Threads and the list of Theme topics.
I'll revive my "Re-invigorating the MSA" thread in the near future, to discuss how we might proceed in the future.

Yes, I think it is time to put the MSA on hiatus for a bit.
I'll post to that effect shortly.

Does it need to go on hiatus? What about implementing some of the changes that were discussed a while back?

There are too many rules. The rule should be: (1) take note of the theme of the assignment and (2) before the month ends, post exactly one image directly into the thread.

As far as I can tell, there are essentially two rules:
1) the photo has to be taken after the theme is announced; and
2) it has to be taken on film.
The rest just deal with how things are displayed, how the "winner" is chosen, and how the next theme comes about.
I could be wrong, but I think your proposal adds one more rule - one entry per participant.
I will admit that I have been remiss in not posting in order to drum up interest, but I don't think that has made much difference in the current situation.
If there is activity, I'm happy to continue being a mini-moderator of the MSA, but if someone else would like to take it over, I would be fine with that as well.

True, I did say one picture, which adds a rule. But the adding of pictures seems a bit convoluted, members who don't subscribe can't post to a gallery, so it makes more sense to only add the photos directly to the thread. And there's no way to enforce people go take the photo during the month of the assignment, but, for the most part, people would want to do that. (It also doesn't really matter from a viewer's standpoint when the photo was taken. If the photographer lies, he or she will be the only one aware of it. I'd feel like I cheated myself if I lied about what I posted. I wouldn't feel like I'd cheated anyone else.) Some rules don't need to be written.
But it really is probably a matter of the post not getting enough attention. Even the people who see it forget about it if it doesn't show up. At least with the exchanges, you feel a responsibility to deliver something in the real world that forces you to get on with it.
Here's an August morning:

I'm new here and had subscribed to this - would be sad to see it go, as I liked Macro Mondays in Flickr before I got permabanned for challenging the (lack of) quality and creativity of themes :D

What about implementing some of the changes that were discussed a while back?
Which ones? If there is a consensus, I'm happy to go with what people want.
With one exception - I would be grumpy about removing the rule that photos have to originate on film.
Here is the thread where we discussed some options: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/re-invigorating-the-monthly-shooting-assignment-msa.182174/
And while I find interesting everything that was proposed, I think any proposal that adds more and concurrent themes might be counter-intuitive in a situation where we are having difficulties getting participation with just one.
So your thoughts please - and don't hesitate to suggest themes as well. If all that comes from this is a theme that kick-starts another round with the same rules, all is good.
By the way, one of the reasons for allowing uploads to the MSA Gallery as well as to the threads is that the Gallery does (or at least did) permit uploading larger files, so it was one way to encourage people to become subscribers if they weren't already.

Yes FILM, or we would become a grumpy old man ... sigh ... again!
Part of the problem as stated has been the covid, as stated in the options thread, another is themes. This needs to be eased, say same theme can't be used that has been used in last year, giving more freedom for those who won and want to select a new theme

As Matt pointed out MSA was started to showcase and encourage the use of film.

How many people are we allowed to include in one PM "conversation"? Maybe a direct message... see if we can't get 10 or 12 or 15 people to agree to participate in the next one. If we can't drum up a dozen people willing to give it a go, maybe it is time for a rest. Maybe keep the morning theme since it didn't get enough attention and spark deserves a chance to find out how much fun judging can be

I do know that for myself, there have been cycles where I skipped because the theme didn't interest me. But that's hardly an unique proposition - I'm sure that many of us have skipped a given month because the theme didn't strike us. I don't know if having multiple themes would encourage or discourage participation.

I really like the idea of multiple themes, gives more options instead of restrictions.

Any more thoughts about the resurrection of MSA? .
Or are we all still out in space in the early morning light ...

Took this end of August at the river 'Ee' - a water connecting road between Slotermeer and Jsselmeer in the municipality of De Friese Meren / The Netherlands.

Hmmm - I don't know what to suggest.
I'm thinking that a pause is probably a good idea, and am reluctant to re-start at this time of the year.
Would someone else like to set up a round?

Okay, thank you very much - maybe it's for the best.
If anyone has a good idea for reforming the rules of our MSA, they can get back to you.

It's unfortunate that this has happened. I was somewhat active here some time ago, but hasn't been around lately. I just remembered these shooting assignments again and came back to participate!
