This is the big brother to the common Noblex 150 UX rotating lens panoramic camera. It produces massive 50 x 170 negatives that are tack sharp across the frame. These are quite rare and I have never seen one in as good condition as this with the extras offered.

It has lens shift, adjustable focus, and highly accurate electronic lens travel mechanism. This camera received a full service from Bob Watkins at Precision Camera Works (THE expert on Noblex in the US) a few years ago, and works flawlessly. Cosmetically, the camera is beautiful and has very few slight marks and no dings or dents. The film door on the 175 UX is very heavy and in the process of loading film many of these camera's door hinges were damaged or broken and now show repairs (most of the ham-fisted variety!). This one has never been damaged that way - I always take great care with the door when loading film. A slow speed module is included that allows very slow shutter speeds of up to two seconds, and multi exposure capabilities allow for unlimited time exposures. Retail price on the camera alone was $5200 before it was discontinued.

It comes with a very rare Panolux exposure module that can actually vary the speed of lens rotation to compensate for light differences across the frame. The Panolux works fine - once you understand it- but the cable has been stressed and I always took great care when connecting and disconnecting it. It should be adjusted by a competent technician at some point. I never did more than test it so I did not have repaired. Retail on the Panolux was $770 back in the day.

Also included is the original custom Noblex trunk with keys that has cutouts for the camera, slow speed module, Panolux, filters and sundries. Also included are one skylight and one UV filter ( again, filters are hard to find!). I am including an original owners guide, but it is in German but the English version is available online. I am happy to talk the buyer through all functions, as this is a wonderful, but somewhat quirky camera.

I am asking $4850 OBO for this rare beast.

Please see this link for some higher res photos and videos of the camera in action. https://www.flickr.com/photos/69104028@N00/51260636673/in/album-72157719489957140/

still available - save this from an eB@y fate of ending up on some investor’s display shelf. It deserves use by a sensitive artist like you.

I've used one of these in the past for architectural work. Several professional photographers in Melbourne have or had one. Fiddly to work with, of limited use (landscapes mostly), but a fine camera with a superb lens.

Respectfully, you should consider selling via a reputable dealer/shop. For the price you are asking, potential buyers will surely expect a warranty and a return guarantee if not up to spec.

As they say in Montreal, bonne chance avec votre ventre.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, I guess one could say they are “fiddly”, but as with most specialized equipment, a learning curve and proper procedures are required - from loading film to aperture and SS settings, framing and attending to all details. I would not consider it optimal as an everyday replacement for a Leica M or other more general purpose MF kit.

Also, I have sold many items as expensive via forums and ebay and never ran into a buyer expecting a warranty. Of course I always accept returns in like condition if the item does not function as described upon receipt.

Anyway, I am not extremely anxious to sell it and only do so since I have too many panorama cameras and this is the gem of the group and significantly more valuable than the others.

Thanks again

Many years ago one of the old mid-90's photo mags ran a piece on this(type) camera used to photograph field events at the olympics.
As I recall the results were quite nice. Some very well-exposed b&w shots of amorphous figures leaping or running across the very wide frame.
Google search yields nada.

I would be interested in seeing those photos - I have shot moving cars with a Noblex and results are interesting. They can be stretched or squashed depending on their direction of movement. I am sure most everyone had seen Jeff Bridges’ tragedy comedy series taken with a Widelux.

Here is a shot of my daughter, looking like an alien, from quite a few years age that I took when playing around with a widelux. Of course using the focal plane shutter on a Speed graphic can result the same effect.

Try googling ‘olympics strip camera’ and you should get some cool pics.

Yes, some interesting effects - I had not heard the moving slit shutter curtain referred to as a strip camera!
