I mostly do RC black & white using pre-cut mats from Light Impressions. I have previously use 3M PMA (positionable mounting adhesive). Humidity and temperature affect the print mounted this way. I use 4ply overmat with the image mounted on 2 ply with 3/16th foam board underneath. If a customer is not careful with the display environment the print will buckle. Talking with others I find that similar problems occur even with dry mounted. My solution is going to be to use farmers tape or the pressure sensitive tape sold by Light Impressions. I would use the 1/4" border to attach the photo to the undermat. One strip across the top of the photo so it hung, with no other attachments. If I flatten the image (weighted) for a couple of days before mounting and framing, would this be a good solution? I am assuming that the undermat and the print expand/contract at different rates so that one attachment point eliminates the bucking. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,
Bob Ivano

I have mounted RC prints as you propose without any problems, although I usually dry mount them onto a base board, and over mat them, again without any signs of buckling. Maybe yours are subject to higher humidity than here. I’m a little puzzled as to why you need to flatten RC prints since one advantage of this medium is it’s naturally flat drying.
