Actually Matt it is kind of a reflection of what I have in my darkroom. The scary part is what someone like the OP is going to have to deal with someday when I am gone.

Yes, at least you have the foresight and sensibility to realize that. My uncle acts like mortality doesn’t apply to him and that he still has decades left to do whatever he wants. This photo stuff is just a drop in the bucket of a house and yard filled with junk -and most of it just that- JUNK!

Worth a small fortune.

Can you be more specific about this gold chloride? How much is it worth? And is it worth putting on eBay? (One tube was opened, not sure about the other).

Might be better off to contact Photographer's Formulary and see if you can broker a deal with them to test it and sell it for you.

Mind you, they may or may not be up to this, but wouldn't hurt to ask I think...

may one assume from the smiley face that you realize this and are taking steps vis a vis responsible disposal now?

I know I am.
The plan is to use up as much of the film, chemicals and paper as I can over this winter. I am starting to sell off some of the older larger developing tanks and hangers so it doesn't end up going to the dump

google, "15 grains in grams"
it says that 15 grains is 0.971984 grams.

So it’s ~$45 a container instead of $450? (My math is bad on good days, and I’m a little overloaded right now...)

IDK but based upon the info in post #28 above, yeah.

Gulp. I have two containers, 15g each, one unopened and the other opened but ‘mostly full’. I don’t have a scale that can tell me if it’s close in weight...

EDIT: that’s 15 GRAINS, not grams. I’m slightly relieved, though now just wondering how many grams that is...
Uh, I'm puzzled. The gold chloride containers seem to be very large for such a tiny quantity.

Didn't this come in a amber bottle, nested in cardboard tubes to avoid light? Maybe that explains the large packing size...

Oh, that would explain it, never had a chance to see/use one of these.

I had a clean out of my shed a few weeks ago... I now have a bucket of out of date (back to '93) distress flares.. Do I take them somewhere or offer them to soccer hooligans on gumtree? I managed to get rid of some 2 pack automotive paint to a paint collection service recently that had been sitting there for 20+ years, which reminds me somewhere I've got a bottle of some substance that we used to paint our kart tyres with the night before a race to make them extra sticky! Photographically, I have some stuff that hopefully I'll use up in future years.

If you decide no to try to sell the Gold Chloride, I'll be interested in taking it.

I'd like to try this with other toners, as I've seen some interesting combinations here and in other galleries.

Cheers,
Eli

Worth a small fortune.

Sorry for getting the units wrong.
I should have been more reluctang interpreting such bad photograph. But Grains I only came across at Apug and only one ot two times. I had that unit not on my mind.

The cardboard boxes being protective sleeves makes sense.
