Monthly Shooting Assignment: November/December 2012 "SUNRISES"

Dear Fellow MSA members,
Well, this has been a week to remember here on the East Coast. Although my town and myself emerged relatively unscathed from Hurricane Sandy, most people were not so lucky.
The newspapers and TV channels (when I finally was able to access them) were filled with the most horrible images of devastation. I freely admit I wept at the horror of it all.
But we must move on, thanks to folks like Kav, clean up and rebuild. With that in mind, the most symbolic of the dawning of a new day is a Sunrise!
So help me erase the pictures of destruction from my eyes and give me instead photos of the most beautiful sunrises you can find!
Color or B&W. Just show me the sun lifting up into the sky, bringing with it hope and courage that things will return to normal, no matter how long it takes.

This time of year, this part of the world, it's possible there could be no sunrises any time soon. We're into the gray and rainy months. Hope it's OK if I tweak this a bit to "Dawn". That early crepuscular light can be well worth getting up for.

Glad you are unscathed Barbara Ann. Hope those who had their lives blown and washed away get all the help they need to re-build.

Thanks for the good wishes, Sly. By all means, "dawn" is well within the parameters of the topic. Look forward to your always interesting images!

"Purple Sunrise over Grey Mountain" by Anthony DeLorenzo is a fine start to this assignment. I'm sure there will be more to come from other MSA shooters.

Ha ha. Those are exactly my thoughts. I will keep a watch on the weather forecast and keep a camera loaded.

Technically, I think this fine image is outside the rules, because IIRC the shot needs to be taken during the appropriate time period.

But I'm certainly not complaining.

Whoops, sorry about that. I tried to look for some rules but couldn't see anything... And it is a 'new' image for me not just one I shot.

I'm sure I'll be able to shoot another in the coming months to replace it... With the sun rising at 10:00 am there is no need to get up early.

Good choice, Barbara. Thanks for that. And good to know all is well your way.

Uploaded two I recently scanned from last year's trip. It'll do to get things started.
Got some thoughts on something I want to try around where I live, found a apot where I can watch the sunrise over the lake.

Finally found what was wrong with the Mamiya 645 Pro-TL, everything was coming out seriously underexposed. Thought initially it was the shutter gone.
Turns out these things have a small 6V battery under the body that I never noticed and guess what was flat? Yup...
Replaced it and it looks like it's back to normal. Had no idea that battery was needed for the meter!
Still gonna bounce it off the mechanic to check the shutter speeds but it should be OK now.

Hopefully will be able to use it for more recent shots. Got a pile of Provia 100F 120 to go through and a holiday coming up!
Hopefully the weather will improve here and we'll start getting some serious Summer heat and sunrises!

Oh my goodness! I think I've created a monster with my topic! The images so far are quite beautiful and I can see already that I'm going to have a really hard time selecting a winner!!
I just hope everyone enjoys this assignment and experiences some good moments capturing sunrises...

Peaceful? Hardly. The wind was blowing so hard that morning, that I had to literally hold onto my cap! I forgot all about the power lines until it was light out.

Shot on 35mm in my Mamiya 7 II & 65mm lens with 35mm panoramic adapter with either fuji Provia or Astia expired by a few years.

The first roll I ever ran through my Mamiya 7 II

Today is December 1st. We are at the halfway mark for "Sunrises". Before you get all busy with the holidays, don't forget to grab a few early morning shots of the sun rising. Some wonderful images have been entered already, but I just know there are more out there!

Decided to participate! And here we have it, shot on Lomography CN200 Tiger film, using a Pentax Auto 110 with a Pentax-110 50mm 1:2.8
