I've used a mac most of my life and therefore have never really had to worry about a monitor, as I was using the one that was physically part of my computer. Mac screens aren't perfect in terms of gamut/accuracy (specifically adobeRGB), but from what I've gathered and experienced, they're very good!
Unfortunately, my budget is the limiting factor here, as it is very small. I can't invest anymore than $500 CAD and preferably would want something even lower than that in price. Given this, I know I won't be able to tick all the boxes, but still believe I should be able to get an IPS display that will meet my needs. The size of the monitor is not too important to me as long as its over 21".
Essentially, I'm not sure what specs to prioritize. My use will be primarily for photo editing, design, video editing/watching, and occasional gaming. The combination of these uses makes it hard to find a budget option. I want wide colour reproduction, decent refresh rate and preferably a resolution greater than 1080p. It doesn't need to be 4K, but 2K would be nice if possible. I will still have my macbook for additional reference and likely everything I print will be viewed at the printer's as well.
That being said, should I aim for a more affordable, high resolution gaming monitor and worry about the aRGB coverage further along the line when I'm at the printers, or opt for the lower-end of the "pro" monitor market and get something with high aRGB reproduction, but lower resolution and refresh rate? Ultimately, there are some variables I'm still uncertain of. Does NIT really matter as long as I'm at 500 or above? Does high P3 coverage translate to more adobeRGB coverage? I know they share many colours, but I'm sure there is lots of variation.
In the end, I suppose I was just wondering if there are well known budget options in the editing monitor world.
Any tips, or info you have would be great! Any links to good monitor sale/deals would also be great.
