I once worked in labs where we had to take samples of powders. There is a method of deviding

I completely agree with all of the above as I was trained to do the same i.e. sub-sample powders.

I am embarrassed to admit that I rechecked the mixing instructions and i was incorrect

Don't feel bad I've had more than my share of mistakes in the past few months. I tend to blame it on a misalignment of the planets.

I find it easiest to make D76 by buying a 1 gallon container of distilled water - it gives me the right amount of water and a container to mix it in.
I recently decided to try XTOL, but can't find any containers around the house large enough to mix it in. Some of the suggestions earlier in this thread may come in handy.

I mix my own D-76 from raw chemicals but ,I mix a stock solution at double concentration and then mix it 1+1 with plain water to a working solution. This allows me to get a working solution at just the right temperature every time.
