Due to illness, parenthood, the loss of my local rental darkroom, and a job that just demands too much time it has been a while since I used my Tachihara 4x5.
Recently I pulled the camera out of it's case, just to re-familiarize myself with it prior to an up coming vacation and I noticed something odd. There appears to be an acorn nut on just about every knob (or, more correctly, on each post)... presumably to prevent one from turning the knob completely off and having to fish around in the grass for it.
These nuts are on just about every knob, except on the back focusing knob. There are no acorn nuts on either of the back focusing knobs. Is this normal? It doesn't seem to have any impact on the camera's function. The nuts are not essential for locking anything down... also, you would have to be very deliberate to remove the back focusing knob - there is just too much of a post there to take it off by accident. It just seems odd that there would be acorn nuts everywhere else but on the back focusing knobs.
This is more of a curiosity - like I said, it doesn't seem to matter. If they are missing, I couldn't even say when the fell off (or if they were even there in the first place). I use rear focusing so infrequently (to be honest, only when I was using it for no other reason than to educate my self on the camera's movements) that it could have been that way for a very long time.
The only thing that concerns me is if I ever go to sell the camera (which I may do in the near future). I'd love to be able to tell a potential buyer, honestly, that the nuts are not supposed to be there... or find replacements. I suspect that if they are supposed to be there, I could find them at a site like SmallParts dot com, but I don't know the size.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm also reaching out to the folks at Midwest Photo, where I originally purchased the camera.
