MINT CALUMET CALTAR II-N 90MM MC F4.5 - COPAL #1 SHUTTER - Serial # 11219530
Selling a pristine 4x5 large format 90mm wide angle lens manufactured by Rodenstock (Rodenstock Grandagon-N) and sold under the (just recently defunct) Calumet brand. This lens is considered by many to be one of the best wide angle designs available along with Schneider's and Nikon's equivalents. The strengths of this professional lens are a rare maximum aperture of F4.5 allowing for easy focusing even in subdued lighting conditions, excellent distortion correction at the edges (8 elements in 4 groups), amazing sharpness at smaller apertures (F8 to F32), increased 105º angle coverage for landscape work, larger image circle for architectural subjects (236mm at F22), high fidelity color rendition thanks to advanced multi-coating technology (hence the MC initials), all in a still light and compact package at less than 4 inches long (88.5mm) and a mere 1.5 lbs (700g)! Also made in Germany.
I am the original owner of the lens that I bought new for close to $2000 back in the fall of 2006 at Calumet Chicago on Goose Island. I only used this lens very occasionally for a total use probably equal to about 30 location photo shoots max in 8 years of time. That's definitely not a lot of clicks, so this lens is like new and comes with the original back and front caps. It also comes mounted on a genuine and equally pristine Toyo 110mm square lens board ready to be put back to work!
CONDITION: MINT
- Front & rear glass surfaces are scratch and defect free with the exception of 1 super tiny superficial mark on the front lens that is barely visible. In fact I was never aware of it before taking the time to inspect the lens closer than usual to list it here. I have been enlarging and printing work shot with this lens as large as 30x40" and that minuscule spot was not registered on any neg or print, so it is safe to assume it will not affect your future imagery either. Tried photographing the sucker but couldn't register properly, sorry (that's saying how small and superficial it is).
- It goes without saying that EVERYTHING else functions and operates as new: shutter has seen maybe 150 clicks so it is still at its youngest and all speeds are super accurate (T, B all the way to 1/400 top shutter speed). Aperture adjustment lever glides through freely and smoothly from the very luminous maximum aperture of F4.5 through the minimum aperture of F45. Shutter preview lever is solid with firm closing/opening operations, shutter release lever is very reactive and fires each time, shutter speed adjustment ring clicks firmly at all speeds, and PC contact/X Flash sync works beautifully at all speeds.
Current used market value for such an incredible, very bright professional wide angle lens in mint condition is $900 with caps but not including the high quality Toyo lens board (at least $50 value). Asking for only $700, your steal, my loss (Merry Xmas everyone!). Email or message me directly for any questions.
