Minox Film Slitter...Jimmy Li Slitter (Splitter)

I just received my Jimmy Li Minox film slitter. This is the best way I have found to date to obtain Minox film.
I used to buy the pre-loaded cartridges but they are very hard to find or expensive.

I saved all my cartridges for a re-load, but was searching for years for a high quality film slitter.

Here are some pictures of the unit from the internet. (Pictures of my unit to follow, but it looks just like this one),

There had been a rumor that they were no longer in production.

You for to mention what the price for this little gem is.
Already built my own ‘pull through’ slitter and it seems to work fine, with good clean cuts. But this sure looks more durable.

I use a "pull-through" type with razor blades. Works well, but, I think Jimmy Li's, with the rolling shear cut would be much better.

120 to 16mm/110?

I have a few pull throughs but this looks nice.

I made a pull through one too but one of the blades chipped. How much does he charge for that?

Price is in HongKong currency and exact price will depend on shipping and currency exchange.

In my case mine will pay for itself tonight once I reload these cassettes with bulk loaded HP5, assuming I'd have to pay $20 USD per roll.

27 cassettes X $20/roll value = $540 — so you paid $540 for the device? Interesting... I have an original MInox slitter that works fine, but at some point I’ll have to source a new cutting block as the blades dull.

Heavens no, I'm not loading all of them tonight. I paid about $200 USD for the splitter. I think one would consider it worthwhile if one shoots more than ten or so roll of Minox film.

Here is a similar thread from 2015. BTW, Jimmy Li emailed me back in one day when I inquired about the device. I also asked if it was OK to post about it here, in case anyone else wants one and he indicated he could make some more.

Ha! I saw 27 cassettes and did the math. $200 is a much better price, given the obvious quality of the device and the fact that it will probably never wear out. Is Jimmy making film cassettes too? I think I’ve seen pictures of such....

Couple years ago I paid $160. So pleased with his splitter for Minox that I also purchased one designed for Minolta 16, which makes one strip for Minolta and one for Minox. Very precisely machined instrument. Bought mine when Minox announced discontinuance of replacement blades. Li’s slitter doesn’t use blades. Will definitely outlast me.

120 to 127, if reference is to my op.

I suspect 120 is too stiff/thick to make good 16mm stuff for a Minolta 16, #1 or #2.

I do no have any other miniatures, except 110.

There is several Kodak's and a Rollie B.

120 film support is thinner (0.1mm) than 135 (0.12)

I did it this summer. Not worth it for me. I have limited 120/70mm stock but loads of 35mm. I stuck to 35mm. I also have been using cine stock which is super thick, and it seems to be working just fine.

Very nice and well made slitter. I also have the original Minox slitter made some 30 years ago. Since I don't cut too many rolls it is in perfect shape. However, it would be very nice to have one of these. Here in Colombia, we have a very weak rate of exchange. One US dollar is roughly COP$5.000!!! So I was wondering if the chap who makes it perhaps can provide the plans to make one locally. I'll co0ntact him and hope he can probide them.

I was also wondering if any of our friends here can help me to find Dr. Fischer light bulb for my Minox enlarger. I'm sure you know that it has to be a special bulb because the filament is off,centered inside the bulb. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

I haven't seen one of the originals in years but there was someone on ebay selling an adapter for regular bulbs. Wasn't cheap though.

FYI, Goathill has been selling 120 to 127, 16mm/110, Minox, etc. slitters for over 25 years. They have ones that create 127 PLUS Minox or 16mm at the same time.

If I knew I would have told you. It was a bulb base with the contacts offset so a regular projection bulb could be used. Beyond that I couldn't tell you. You could make one yourself if you get the dimensions right. I only have the one bulb for my Minox enlarger so someday I'll probably have to do it myself. The Minox bulb will last a lot longer if you don't use the bright setting. Good luck.

Thank you very much Jim. As a matter of fact I have a bulb but it has started to develop a small bulge. I don't know why but it is working fine. If you happen to design the contraption for using ordinary bulbs, I would appreciate you tell us how to make one or, make it yourself and sell it to us Minox lovers. Thanks again. EDUARDO

As I understand, Li is no longer making slitters. I have both: the slitter making two Minox strips and also slitter for one Minox and one Minolta 16 strips. I have, but no longer use, the Minox slitter.
