Minolta XD5 - all Shutterspeeds are exactly the same

Hello Forum,

i have that issue with my silver XD5, my 2 XD7 (black) are working perfectly fine.
It seems to be a general, well-known issue, but i am unaware to fix that, and this XD5 looks almost new, so i'd like to keep it,
it's into mint condition.

The lightmeter works, reacts perfecty, but all shutter times from bulb, O (1/100s) and 1sec to 1/1000s are exactly the same.
Can someone help me out here? I've found that story here, too:

The posting you listed has what appears to be a fairly in-depth analysis of the issue and possible repairs. Never having worked on one, I cannot comment on how accurate this information could be, but it sounds reasonable.

I don't think there is a simple fix for your problem and a visit to a camera repair shop would be the best next step.
 
Of course, you could display the XD5 as art and probably purchase a fully functional example much cheaper than having that camera serviced. I am seeing examples of this camera in good working and physical condition selling for 30-90 USD.

Then again, it could turn out to be a fairly simple problem to repair; who knows?

Just a thought. If the shutter speeds appear to be all the same it may be that the shutter speed dial or the auto/manual setting (Which I believe is on the same dial) have some sort of fault which may be able to be repaired without too much stripping down.. It could be that the contacts are dirty and all that needs doing to clean them and possibly reset the speeds if they are still inaccurate.
 
I have similar hunch, that some of the dials are not working due to long time unused. I had two XD-7s in the past that seemed not working upon arrival, but came back to life after I incessantly turning all the dials up and down many times. That might get rid of the dust, dirt, grease, grime, and rust on those ring resistor and switches.

Another possibility is the battery and contacts. It is always worth a thorough cleaning and a brand new fresh battery.
