Minolta X-700 Serial Number

I've been looking for the camera serial number for my Minolta X-700s and can't seem to find one. Can anyone tell me where it might be?

It is on the hotshoe.

Yes. It's almost impossible to find unless you know where to look.

Except for Minoltas without a permanent hotshot - like the SR1 and XK as well as the early SRTs, Minolta puts the serials on the hotshot. Looking at my other camera brands, I don't see any others doing this. I wonder if there are any others that "hide" the serial number?

Les, some Nikon bodies have it on the baseplate. Usually, though, it's either on the rear, or next to the rewind crank on the top cover.
