Minolta x-700 question

I have a question about a sound coming from a Minolta x-700 body.

I have been given a Minolta X-700 body and have run one roll through it but not yet processed it to see the results. I notice that when my trusty x-570 (that I have used for 7 years) fires, it gives a nice "chunk" sound. The x-700 sounds like "kee-chunk". The "kee-" part of the sound is longer when mounted with the 35-200 zoom than with the 50mm. Is this normal? Is it part of stopping down the aperture for the shot?

What mode is it in, A or P? A will produce slower shutter speeds for the aperture selected. P will favor a faster shutter speed over aperture.
To me it sounds like the X-700 is just using a slower shutter speed when the zoom lens is mounted. The max aperture of the 50mm is f/1.7 (probably) and the zoom is f/4.5 to f/5.6 (again probably) so a difference of about 4 shutter speeds would be noticed.

Nope, Wade, sorry. It isn't a difference in shutter speed. The "kee" sound is coming slightly before the mirror pops up. The "chunk" part of the sound is the same. And it is every time the shutter fires. These are nearly identical cameras.

Well my X700 and X300 sound the same, but if the results on the negs are ok...I would forget about it.

Is the mirror bumper foam on the X-700 in good shape? I'm thinking the mirror flip-up isn't being as dampened as it could be.

Yeah, I was expecting it to sound just like the X-570. When I've heard any of these x- bodies work they do seem to sound the same.

If the negs do turn out alright I probably will ignore it. But I'm thinking it will get worse. It seems to be a quick mechanical gear whir. That's a good catch on I checking the foam. Even if it doesn't turn out to be part of this problem, I should do that anyway. The camera was sitting in the bottom of a closet for over 10 years so any kind of rot like that could have set in.
