Hello Everyone,
My power slide on my Minolta X-700 wont slide from the off position. Seems like it's jammed in that position. I've tried to push it to the on position but it wont budge even when using some force. Anyone have any tips on how to fix it?

Is this a new camera to you?
Has it functioned in the past?
Did you spill anything on the camera?
Did you wipe the camera with any solvents?

Have had the camera for a while and havent spilt anything on it or wiped it with any solvents. Worked perfectly fine for me and my sister for the most part. My sister was using it for the past few months and she said it progressively got tougher to slide on until now where the slide won't move.

Well, I will state the obvious; it needs to be serviced before there is some irreparable damage done to the mechanism.

Of course, it probably would be cheaper to simply buy another used, but fully functional camera body rather than pay for servicing the camera.

Ebay prices for functional bodies start around $60 USD and go up. A repair might cost less, but most general service for any problem will exceed the cost of replacement, in my opinion.

You could always try to fix it yourself. Here is the factory repair manual: https://learncamerarepair.com/product.php?product=222&category=5&secondary=49

Here someone has an identical problem and another person makes a suggestion to fix it, but there is no followup as to whether it worked or not, but it sounds like a reasonable repair attempt: https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/x-700-switch-problem.5494240/

If you have a nearby camera repair shop, you could always get a quote.

Good luck.

actually, that is about the starting price for a CLA. Garry in Chicago wants 50 us plus shipping for any of the X-700 series for a basic clean and light seal job... http://www.garryscamera.com/minolta.htm so if the camera is otherwise in good shape, that might be a start. (and their are many other repair folks around.) Problem with a body from E-bay is that the sellers generally have no idea how to check the camera (or worse do know and sell the duds as as-is untested) I have almost made it standard to figure on sending out any used Camera for at least calibration.
