Minolta SRT repair Q

I have an SRT101 with a sluggish meter coupling ring. The ring around the lens mount. I have removed the lens mount and cleaned the mount, the ring and the area underneath and it didn't help. I also applied a thin film of lube but that also didn't help.

The connecting string just doesn't seem to have enough tension to snap the ring back where it should be when the lens aperture ring is moved.

I'm wondering if adding a knot to the string a little lower than the current knot to increase the tension but would that mess up the meter calibration if I did that? Anyone know?

Has the thread hopped off one of the internal pulleys? It's likely in my mind that the
indicator needle would be misaligned......................It's been years since I needed
to look though.

I don't think so but I haven't pulled the top cover to look. I was hoping to avoid that. But, maybe that is what I need to do.

Sounds like you are doing the right things. The only thing I can think of is to dig deeper -- unfortunately.

I would not tie a knot, etc. Do you have the service manual?

the "sting" connects all the parts of the metering system. I agree that it is likly off one of the rollers, or one of the parts has become misaligned.. Since you can't get the "red dot" anymore, if you are not able to remove it in once piece, you may have to just use red paint of that screw.

I just completed work on my first Minolta SRT, and got to know those strings and pulleys pretty well! Yes it's possible to dismantle and reassemble the things, though I can understand someone wanting to give up in disgust upon seeing all of the things unravel. Service manual linked to in post 5 has useful tips on how to reassemble the things if/when they all come undone.

Yes unfortunately if you unseated the aperture ring, you've almost certainly caused the string to fall off the pulleys, and the second pulley from the right might now be ratting loose inside your camera.

Full appature metering was one of the relativly new features on the SRT series, and so it was pushing the state of the Camera Makers art at the time. So go slow and take lots of reference notes.

RE: the red dot removal, a fine sewing needle works most of the time but the red paint or paint stick
is the alternative.
A donor boy(for the dot(?) may be an answer but there were a couple of sizes on SR cameras.
