Will the original driver work? Mine looks like it's installed properly. But it won't launch. One utility reads that it has exceeded time limit for operation. the other that can't find the scanner, even though the system has.
Are the any reasonable 3rd party drivers out there for this combo?
thanks,
Charles
Can't help you with your specific situation, but look into Vuescan. I'm using Vuescan on a Vista64 system with a Nikon 8000. My system doesn't seem to recognize the scanner at all, despite drivers, etc. Vuescan sees it and controls it flawlessly. www.hamrick.com
I have a Minolta 5400 which I use with Vista 64. The Minolta drivers won't work with Vista 64 so I use VueScan and have no problems. Try the free demo download to see if it work. You may need to remove the Minolta driver before you install it though. The other point is when you install VueScan it will ask you if you want to install a driver for use with older scanners - answer yes to this. Good luck.
Installed Vuescan trial, and after considerable fiddling with the device manager, got the scanner running. Vista is still asking me to install driver for the scanner. It's not launchable from other programs. Is this normal?
This program definitely has possibilities, after a considerable learning curve.
For my current needs, I may fire up the Win98 P3.
I don't have any issues with Vista prompting me for the scan driver to be installed so not quite sure what has happened there. Regarding the program, if you are not familiar with VueScan it produces excellent results far beyond what I was ever able to achieve with the Minolta software. By the way, after installing the VueScan driver I was able to get the Minolta software working on Vista as it seems to use the VueScan driver once installed properly. Getting good results from Vuescan does take a bit of learning but well worth it.

In any case, it's better to use Vuescan IMHO. Better software than the original. (al5256, thanks for the tip anyway!) I run both my Minolta DualScan III and Epson 2450 in Windows 7 64bit through Vuescan (w/o installing any OEM driver!), and never had any problems. It's good to have a single / constant interface for all the scanners you possess.
