+1Years back I had good experience with a Minolta XD-11 CLA from Garry at http://www.garryscamera.com/ (Chicago area, US)
I bet there's someone in Toronto local that can do a CLA on your SRT101 because it's not complicated. With shipping, etc it might be cheaper/easier to find a used SRT that's had a recent CLA.
Hi Wallendo: thanks for the background on Garry's camera repair. I noticed that he requires payment before you send the camera down. Is that true or am I reading it wrongI have had a good experience with Garry's Camera fixing an SRT-201 with a sticky shutter. He was also able to adjust the meter for modern batteries also. I sent him a SR-1 with a mirror issue he couldn't repair, but didn't charge for that one.
Hi Bearman: repair shops here in Toronto are few and far between and those that do repairs once they have a look at most film cameras say they don't do repairs on film cameras any more. Hi BAC1967: you;re right. They are a robust camera but this one was given to me by someone who had switched over to digital and wanted to give it to someone who would use it rather than having to throw it away. So I ended up with it. The only things wrong with it are the film counter won't reset and the shutter speeds sound off. I am planning to shoot a test roll when it gets a little cooler to see how well it works.Minolta Sr-T’s don’t break so why would anyone fix them?
Are the light seals turned to goo? That could be gumming up the little switch in the door that re-sets the frame counter. I don't know if you have replaced light seals in a camera before but it's not hard. Plenty of instructions online and you can get a kit specific to your camera. Might be a skill worth learning on a free camera.Hi BAC1967: you;re right. Even with something as simple as changing light seals 9 times out of 10 I would screw it up so thats' why I leave the repairs to the professionals.Are the light seals turned to goo? Hi Pentode: shipping across the border is really no hassle for me as I have most of my cameras repaired in the U.S. so I'm used to it. The only thing that gets in the way sometimes is the exchange rate. As it is right now, I won't be sending any cameras down until the exchange rate is more favorable and since I use paypal they take 3% for their fee and that makes it too expensive to do plus I really don't have much confidence in any repair shops here in Canada at the moment.I don't know if shipping over the border makes it more trouble than it's worth, but I strongly recommend John Titterington (I believe he's in Kansas) for SRT series cameras.
He specializes in mechanical Minoltas and his work and prices are very good. He's also a very nice guy.
