Minolta Maxxum 9000 Question

Hello,

I am reading in old Minolta literature that the 360PX will work on the 9000, with the only drawback that it doesn't automatically scale to distance like the 4000 AF would do.

That said, here is my question:


If I can use the 360PX in TTL mode with the 9000, does it suffice to say that I can also use the PG-2 Flash Power Grip with the 9000?

And the 4000 AF on the PG-2?



I understand it wouldn't have the cool connections on the bottom of the camera, but if I used the TTL cables on the PG-2, wouldn't it work fine?

If anyone has tried this - or has a CG 1000 they want to sell , please let me know.

Seeing guys like you continue to shoot great film along with digital was driving me crazy. There's no film processing in country over here so I got the DSLR, but as you know, it's just not the same.

As soon as I found a good source for mail order processing (thanks Ken Rockwell and KK!), I purchased a film camera to use "in theater". Bought it for 1/4 what Sony wants for the new flash I've decided needs to wait until I'm out of this dust bowl. Didn't want to get the Maxxum 9 over here for the same reason. The 9000, I'm told is about like the Nikon F4, which you know is my favorite SLR of all time - and the 9000 will use the lenses I've purchased for my Sony A700. Perhaps after using it for 8 more months over here I'll have as big an appreciation for it as I do the F4. If not, who knows - I may sell the Alpha and all the Minolta /Sony gear and stay with my RF's and buy an F4 just for the heck of it (still got that 55mm, f/1.2 Nikkor sitting around at home just waiting to be used).

Once the camera arrives - probably another month. I'll post a few pictures on the Photospeak for all to see.

I just finished a roll on the F4 that I am picking up this afternoon. Can hardly wait to see the results.

Jeff, see my flickr stream and look for the tag: film, F4s, or F-100.

Wich I could! Can't access flickr from these computers. It's blocked as it drains to much memory to view. Next time I'm at the MWR I'll check 'em out! Thanks.

Your questions are very good questions. I do have a Minolta Maxxum 9 in stock, and the 360-PX electronic flash also. I do not think that I have the 4000 AF flash, but I might have the instruction manual. I wlll look into this combination. It might be interesting. There are some other resources also. I will need to see what differences there are between the Maxxum 9 and the 9000. I am not sure about the PG-2. Another point for research.

You've got a shop? I didn't realize that.

If you've got a Maxxum 9 for sale, I'd be VERY interested - if not now (as I said above) then definately in about 4 months.

If it's still available in February, I'd be very interested in purchasing it. Of course I'd want to know condition and price, etc.

PS - the 360PX won't work on the Maxxum 9 unless you have the correct flash adapter. After the first generation Maxxums, Minolta switched to a proprietary flash shoe mount for its cameras.

Well, no, not really. I am not a camera repair shop or a camera retailer. I probably have enough stuff around here to qualify for a small shop, but I am not doing that at this time. The use of the phrase "in stock" has been to indicate that the item is indeed here, and I do not need to order it or go out and get it. In my case, that does not mean that the item referenced is for sale. The Kyoritsu EF-511NK1 camera tester is here just for checking my own stuff, and the results of any repair efforts that are made on my behalf. A local friendly camera tech was a little bit discouraged when I insisted that a recent repair and adjustment was not satisfactory, and then I told him what I was using to check the camera with. All subsequent work has been fine.

I bought the Minolta Dynax 9 / Maxxum 9 just this year, mainly out of curiosity and a desire to run some tests on it with manual focus lenses and a mechanical/optical adapter. While I do not intend to sell this camera at this time, I might be able to suggest some sources for others that you might consider. I must honestly admit to you that I have not yet exercised all of the features of the 9. If anything, this camera was a precursor to what the latest digital camera wonders were going to look like. Yes, it is a camera for which the instruction manual is a needed accessory.

I do know that there are differences in the flash mount. I might have the correct adapter for it, but I am not really sure. As mentioned, I have not yet exercised all of the features of the 9.
