I would suggest Deoxit liquid. Use the absolute minimum, one or two drops, on each switch. WD40 is not a lubricant, even though people use it as such.

I just used it for the door hinges that were sqeaking.

You are correct about WD-40, the worst thing about that crap is it migrates into places it should never be and causes serious damage to some things. The only thing I found it was actually good for is what it was designed for, water displacement (hence WD). It works great spraying inside distributor caps of car engines that have condensation in them.

I remember when WD 40 came out. They used to have it at all the trade shows. If I recall, they would run an electric motor in a fish tank filled with WD40. Or was it water in the tank and the motor was sprayed with it? Very impressive. Everyone would stand around the booth watching and talking about it.

I like paste wax for lubing things that need a dry, minimal sort of lubricant.

In have not used wax as lubricant except for bicycle chains where I consider it best for me. But likely wax could also work at something as the plastic parts of sliders. As far as I remember we have not discussed wax at camera service.
