Minolta Dynax 7000 flashing 'HELP' on screen

Yikes! So, my minolta fell from my car seat and smashed into the ground. The lens is gone, but the camera body seems fine - except it's flashing "HELP" on the screen. I looked it up and this has something to do with the winding motor, and the manual recommends removing and replacing the battery. Did that, and no luck.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be the trouble? Is my best bet to take it to a shop?

PS - Bonus points if anyone can guide me through saving the film / rewinding it manually in my darkroom. I was at shot 35/36.

Being you destroyed the lens you likely damaged the body mount and related contacts. The rewind appears to be friction drive.
In total darkness with the battery removed, main switch at on, rewind switch in the rewind position open the back and pull gently but firmly on the film. The takeup should unlock and allow the film to be pulled off the takeup with some resistance. Do not tear the film.
