Hello, recently my enlarger started to act up.

When I'm trying to focus, the bellows do not stay in place. Here is a video of the problem to get you more of an idea. Does anybody know where the problem is? I don't want to randomly start turning screws so I rather ask first.

thanks.

At such focus drives there are 2 places of friction braking:
-) between the wheel and the bolt or the between the bolt and the casing
-) between the casing and the wheel or its axle

If a rubber wheel is used then my first thought would be the wheel having hardened over time and become slippery.

But in your case the wheel looks like being from brass. I would have to look more closely or to even dismantle the drive to find out. The best I can say now, is to check those two screws at the brass sheet/spring.

You are correct the brass plate pressures the wheel onto the rail, the bottom two screws are already tight. On the the top I used a piece of paper and stuffed it in there now it works again and the wheel has friction. Thanks much appreciated.

Instead, you might take out the brass spring and bend it stronger. But there are several ways to approach this.

What enlarger is it?
Friction drive focus is pretty nice, I have 4 enlargers with that system.
I'd clean everything first. looks like there is dirt in channel and maybe on the wheel too.
