Does the film counter on the top of the camera show anything?
If the cameras dead , a power supply issue is the most likely.
I can see you've got the grip on , most likely with AA's inside . Have you tried it with fresh batteries directly in the camera without the grip ?

I tried fresh batteries AA and cr.
The combination shortcut gave me the screen saying that the film door is unlocked.
The autofocus calibration on booth is making different sound
That would be nice . Though I mainly use my 5 with a small prime on it such as the 50mm or Minolta 28mm f/2 .
Works well with the Sony SAM 85mm f/2.8 .
Slower to focus , but works well on film too .
I've recently treated myself to another Dynax 9 , but this one had had the SSM and ADI upgrade done to it so I can use lenses with built in motors in them and not just screwdriven ones .
That was hard to find , and it's also a very nice camera .

Was the CR battery directly in the camera with the grip NOT attached ?
The fact a message came up on the screen does suggest it's not a power issue . ( No power , no message )
In your OP you said the camera died .
Your saying the lens is making a funny noise , which suggests the cameras not dead . Dead things don't make noises !
So are you saying when you switch the camera on , it tries to start up , then just died ?
