Minolta 807si not powering on?

I purchased a second body 807si, mint from Japan recently.

Well, it was working perfectly. Until I went to turn it on today and... nothing. Changed the battery and still... nothing. What could the problem be?

Well, it is Sunday, have another try on Monday...

(By lack of better idea on cause of fault, I couldn't help it...)

Well, here we go again. A camera model that does not translate to what was sold to US so we half to resort to default troubleshooting that fit all cases.
1. what type of battery/charger. Are you certain its good. Some batteries will show they're charged but not have enough power to dimly light a light bulb.
2. are the battery contacts inside the camera body bright and shinny?
3. any hint of battery corrosion in the battery chamber?
4. broken wire inside the camera, likely at the battery contacts.
5. bad power on switch. wiggle it and the mode switch as the contacts may be dirty.
6. catastrophic electronics failure.
7. Do you have access to a Volt-Ohm meter? Battery should read .2 to .6V over its rated voltage. Battery contacts in the camera should read 100K ohms or there about with the power switch on.

^^ #1 above. when I was in the trade the saying was "first, last and always, Check the battery"
It is also possible that because of a defect the camera may be draining the battery when it's turned off*.

* Wouldn't be the first time.

Nothing looks off, no corrosion, but there was maybe a bit of stickiness inside the battery compartment.

I cleaned the battery contacts with rubbing alcohol, tried a brand new battery. Heard kind of a loud sound after putting the battery in, almost like the rewind feature but not sure if that's what was happening? Sometimes nothing happens when I reload the battery, other times I get a bunch of symbols on the screen such as action mode/macro etc. Other times low batt. Just recently the IR light came on but is unaffected from turning the camera to lock or on, just stayed on until the battery was removed. It functioned fine when I got it in the mail not too long ago. I removed the battery for a few weeks and now this?

This camera was purchased as a gift for a family member, as a family film camera. It would be a shame to let a near mint beautiful camera like this go to waste. Any other ideas to revive this thing?

Internal electronics failure. As reported in other threads capacitors dry out causing failure. Another possibility is condensation from storage inside the camera, sit it in a warm place for a few days and try again. Solid state electronics (diodes,transistors, IC chips) can be fine until you remove power then permanently go out to lunch the next time you apply power.
