The 7000 was my first autofocus camera and they're actually pretty decent and quite significant in the AF SLR History. Unfortunately this one and just about al Maxxums suffer from the same issue, deteriorating plastic grips!
Last Christmas I was gifted a 3D printer from my son and I started searching for camera related prints. I found many including a three set print for the 7000, the grip, rear thumb grip & battery holder.
Recently searching through Ebay I found and purchased three 7000's and one 7xi "as is " bundle. The 7xi and two of the 7000's were working and one 7000 was toast. Literally! It almost caught on fire when I inserted the batteries! So I took this opportunity to see if the 3D prints were any good. I only printed main grip and the rear door thumb grip since the battery holder was still in decent shape. The following are before and after pics.
I also took advantage and replaced the internal lithium 216 battery.
Here are the before pics, these are actually in better condition than most found on the used market. One good thing is that they have no LCD leakage.
