Hi all,

My Micromega focuser has become annoyingly grubby on the inside of the lens assembly. I think that oil has somehow found its way from the threaded part onto a lens element (goodness knows how) It is not yet completely unusable, but it is getting on my nerves.

Has anyone here ever stripped the loupe/lens assembly one of these for cleaning? Are there guides/forum posts out there that could guide me in stripping the thing? Can they actually be taken apart? I am pretty good at these kinds of repairs but a bit of guidance is always welcome.

My guess is that it would be uneconomic to send it to a repair shop, even if there was someone in the UK willing to take it on. Of course, if someone knows of a UK based repair shop that might be able to clean it for a reasonable price, please let me know.

I bought a second one, like new-in-box at a swap meet for cheap with hazy elements all throughout. It was pretty easy to disassemble and clean. I was lucky in that all the haze came off all the lens surfaces. In fact I went back to my 15-year old one and disassembled that on to clean it up also.

I did not take any pictures, but, as I recall, it comes apart by removing lens rings like many other lenses. Be very careful of the order and orientation of all the parts.

Thanks ic-racer. Good to know that it can come apart. I didn't want to mash anything in a futile attempt at repair. It is now on the to-do list!
