Mexico City

Anyone have any pointers on Mexico City? Anything from places to eat to museums/galleries to visit for photography. Also, what's your sense of how much of a target for thieves would I be if I took my Rolleiflex vs. my Fuji X-T1?

Am currently here at the moment. It's quite pleasant. I've been all around town with a Leica M6 with no worries about being mugged. That said, like being in all big cities mind your surroundings. But I've managed to walk around town camera in hand no worries. I have of course put it in my bag to take the metro, and have kept my possessions quite close to me and bag zips away from floating hands.

As for places to see:

Go see the courtyards of the stately homes in the centre of the city, like in the Colegio de San Idelfonso. Go see Coyoacan or San Angel, it's like a charming little towns within the city. Have a look around the university (UNAM). Go for a walk at the Alameda central.

For food, well if you like places with big ambience go to the Colonia Condesa and have a walk around. Full of restaurants catering to whatever you desire. Some personal favourites that are not so touristy:
Don Asado in Michoacan street in Condesa. Great Uruguayan meat.
La casa de Toño. In Narvarte on Cuauhtemoc near the Centro Medico metro. Super cheap and very tasty Mexican food. You definitely need to try the Pozole. Although mind the massive queues!
You can also try going to the Bisquets, Bisquets de Obregón. It's a chain of Mexican food restaurants, but they are worth a try anyway.

Funny how you're first thought is about being thieved...if that's what you're putting out into the atmosphere that's exactly what you'll get. Mexico City is a world unto itself. there are many neighborhoods and amazing restaurants happening; also art galleries...food stalls' markets; take your pick...

They are more likely to pick your pocket or scam you at an ATM. In general have a spare at home of anything you plan to take to Mexico.

I'm not normally one to be paranoid. The reason I ask is that the last time I was in Mexico City was 30+ years ago, so I have no personal sense of what it is like. What I keep reading is that cameras are targets for robbery. So I don't think it is an unreasonable question to ask. I care about if the camera will be stolen because I don't have an unlimited budget to replace it if it is. THAT'S why I ask.

Also, please note that the first question I asked was for recommendations about art galleries and museums, and then places to eat. Do you have any recommendations for either of those?

go on eater mexico city....there's a;so a section that's like greenwich village; condesa....some very high end restaurants to be had...go have a blast
I didn't mean to be mean but the spoken word is sacred...if something happens I have plenty of cameras..come visit l.a....(and we also have a very cool gay scene here) (of course it"s l.a. mon; where people can be anything they choose)
you know if you are engaging with people I think you'll find out they are interested in what you are doing with those cameras....I make friends all the time just by setting up my view camera!
people are all the same to me...I lived in NYC for 30 years and got mugged 2x...both funny stories; just be yourself and let it flow.....
