Has anyone ever photographed at the Mercer tile Works and the Mercer Home, Fonthill, in Doylestown, PA. It's a perfect BW setting.

It would be an incredible location for a group shoot.

I had an opportunity to shoot there for a magazine article 35 years ago. I suspect that little has changed.

I'll have to post a few of the prints.

I have been eager to return there ever since.

I'm assuming because you're from Bethlehem, that you mean the Bucks County Doylestown, and not the Franklin County Doylestown. Either way, I'd be interested in seeing more about it and hearing more about it too.

What a great place! I was there last summer, but unfortunately it was 100 degrees and the sun was brutal, so the I poked around with a Rollei but didn't do any serious photgraphy. I did take the tour of the home which I found fascinating. John, I live a little far away (Chicago) to join you , but I hope you get there, it's worth the trip.

It's a cool place -- actually three places.

I was at the Tile Works with -- uh -- alternate technology at a special event -- PumpkinFest in the fall 0f 2005.

Did you have to have special permission or pay a fee to photograph there?

I'll have to stop down over to do some scouting.

No, (or at least nobody stopped me) but I was just pointing and shooting a little digicam hand-held like any bumbling tourist. That particular day was a major public event with extra parking out in some adjacent fields. Live music, food, a complete zoo, actually. This was the Tile Works, there might be restrictions inside the house or museum, it's so long since I've been there I can't remember.

Ah! Google is my friend ...
A bunch of info starts here.

Could be fun if it can be done without being in the middle of six busloads of fifth graders. Actually it sounds like one may be reserving a private session by getting the permit.

I'm 20 minutes away, and it's right on the way to a client of mine that I see twice a month or so. So if there anything that I could do to, as far as information is concerned, I'd be happy to help.

I live a few hundred meters from it and go there frequently. Early morning light is better than late afternoon. There are several other good spots in Doylestown for interesting building shots.

Looks like they have the rights-issues very well defined and to even post an image you took of the interior on APUG, you should pay a licensing fee and are limited to the resolution you may post....

I got a feeling, its all going to come to this sooner or later...

Fonthill

I too live very close, probably less than 2 miles from the park in Doylestown.
Although I agree that morning is a good time, you can also find some different angles late in the afternoon
I was actually stopped by a guard last Feb when it was snowing because I didnt realize about the sun had already set even though it wasnt out most of the cloudy day :D

Thanks Dave. I also lost a wool scarf in the snow on the grounds.. if anyone finds it, please let me know LOL
I'm donating a framed 18x24 of an Autumn scene of the Fonthill to the Michener Senior Art Initiative end of the month.
