The enlarger as you can see in the pictures is very large and heavy (66kg). Maximum height 245 cm - minimum 160cm. Remains of an antique photography museum. As per pics, condition is ok. Wooden stand would need repairing or replacing. Price is $875 which includes free shipping.

Thank for the input!
I'm not that clued up on shipping costs.
I'll do a bit more research on couriers.
Do you know of any low cost couriers?

I'm sorry, I don't know which firms would ship from South Africa. Probably major players like DHL and FedEx have a presence there, but there are likely others as well. The best (cheapest) shipping options depend really on what companies are active in the country you send the item from.

In general, shipping items like these given their weight and bulk is a non-starter.

I really like those Meopta (have a 6x6 one) but shipping could be a killer for these monsters. Some years ago I was about to buy one similar to that and price was right, but shipping was around $300.00 from Czech Republic (if memory serve me right).

Normally why those big guys get sell locally.

I sold my Beseler CB-7 with the dichroic head and a lots of goodies for $200 because I had to sell it locally. I am sure someone would be willing to pay much more than that if I can ship to them.

I've shipped large things from Namibia and South Africa to the US. I used DHL directly, as well as Kuehne+Nagel. I expect that shipping something as big and heavy and that will be hundreds of dollars. Shipping by boat is much cheaper than via air as long as a month or two in transit is fine.

I recently got a quote to ship an 800 lb 48" x 40" x 40" pallet from SA to the US and it was over $900 using the slowest method. Size is more of an issue than weight in these cases.

Yep because the space on the shipping container (being on ground, air or boat) is at a premium more so that weight itself.
