So, the other day I decided it was time to get in the darkroom, looks like it's been about 2 years so it's well overdue, I was just going to make contact sheets blacking out the bathroom doesn't take too long but printing on the floor is uncomfortable. Anyway at first it seemed to be working then the bulb blew. It appears to be a standard looking halogen bulb with an odd fitting could I use an off the shelf bulb and solder it on or could I replace it with an LED bulb and then use the colour sliders to compensate for any colour difference. I tend to use Ilford MG filters than the mixing chamber for VC papers anyway.

Thorn: model A1/231, base G 6.35.

Also known as an EFP lamp - Readily available from many sources, and surprisingly, one of the cheaper stores is Dead Link Removed

These things only have a rated life of around 50 hours - Even although the lamp lasts a lot longer than that, the quality of the light drops off. This manifests its self as an inability to hit the harder grades and prints start to look muddy & lacking contrast (with VC papers).

I know it's an old thread, but when changing halogen enlarging lamps, be careful to avoid touching the bulb with your bare fingers. Hold it by the reflector only. Grease from your fingers can considerably shorten the life of the bulb.
