Melanie King show opens Sept. 18 in Los Angeles.

The Lead Apron Gallery in Los Angeles is
opening a solo show of the photography
of my wife, Melanie King, on September
18. The show is called "Jacob's Ladder"
and features her photographs of people
in Appalachian North Carolina.

Melanie works entirely in film, and she
printed all the photographs in the show
on Agfa MCC 111 paper. If you are in
Los Angeles on the 18th, please stop
by and introduce yourself -- we would
love to meet you.

Cool, this month is crazy for shows here. One today, another tomorrow, then in two weeks Melanie's. Congrats to her. I hope i can make it.

The cover photo of the flyer, really is a sleeper.

At first you are attracted to the lighter part where the sky shines through, then towards the caravan/motorhome, then you look around a bit more, Then you see this muted face on the side, just looking at the photographer, nice.

Mick, I completely agree. Perhaps unintentionally,
Melanie's photographs to my eye seem filled with
a sense of foreboding. I find this photograph, in
particular, disquieting, more so than many of the
other photographs in the show. This one haunts me.
