MCC110 QUESTION

Now I know this is supposed to be a great paper. Unfortunately I have yet to be able to make a print on it. All I get are grey or black
Just exactly what am I missing here???
Special safelight...I printed other paper with this at the same time....this has me really curious as I've been printing for 60 years

I regularly use MCC110 and it's just a straightforward paper as far as I can tell. Whatever developer or processing chemistry I throw at it, it just does what one would expect it to do. I use a combination or red leds for safelights and have noticed no issues with this or other papers. Haven't tried other color safelights, so I couldn't vouch for those, but as long as your safelights are within the specifications of the paper, it should work fine. I've never gotten the problem you describe with this paper. Can you describe it more specifically? What do you get when you make a test strip - steps of grey, or a solid tone? When do you get grey, and when do you get black? When you get grey, is there any image visible or none at all?

I was using MCC 110 paper for a printing session last Sunday, nothing special, standard old (Very) Paterson safelight about 3 feet away from developing dishes, Meopta opemus 6 condenser head enlarger, standard print developer (in my case Firstcall paper developer, clone of one of the Rollei developers, just 1/4 the price) which is my standard developer, and great prints, as always a slight warm tone with this paper, never had a problem

Develop an unexposed strip or sheet to see if your paper is fogged. Do this in complete darkness to eliminate safelight fogging as well. If it comes out grey, the paper is fogged, either from age, bad storage or exposure to light. If it comes out paper-base white, start looking for the culprits in your darkroom. Do a safelight test (Kodak has a great pdf tech sheet that explains the test; Google is your friend here). If safelights are good, then check enlarger lamp intensity, your enlarger lens aperture to make sure it's stopping down, filters, etc., etc. You should be able to find the problem fairly quickly.

FWIW, I've been printing on MCC 110 a lot lately with great results. Kodak #1 and #1A safelight filters, Chromega dichro heads with halogen bulbs.

Can't say I've ever had a problem like that with MCC or MCP in its various incarnations - & that includes lith printing it.

Maybe I just had a bad batch..something was out of whack...

Did you purchase it recently from Freestyle? Two months ago I received an 8x10 25-sheet pack of it from them. Its label indicated it had been coated six years earlier and packaged in January 2013, something I confirmed by email with Mirko. Freestyle checked its inventory and told me all the rest of that package type of MCC 110 was from the same very old batch. They refunded my money and indicated they'd stop selling the "well-aged" stock. Newly-manufactured paper isn't due in until February 22:

SAL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE ISSUE BUT THIS HAPPENED QUITE A WHILE BACK!! I SHOULD HAVE CALLED FREESTYLE!!

Peter,

Do the tests I described above: don't just take our collective word for anything. Find your problem so you really know what's going on. The test for fogged paper is easy-peasy.

Doremus I will do a test but I'm convinced that 25 sheet pack was bad or worse ..

2009/2010 belonged to the very first batches and from what I remember they were fine. During 2012 / 2013 there were some issues concerning the maximum contrast. From what ADOX explained it was because of the paper hardening procedure. The procedure was changed and batches made after that had good contrast characteristics.
