Matthew D. White in the NYT today

Us Cajuns call that area “the end of the earth” for good reason.

great photographs are a result of great emotion...

Yes -- back when, there was a guy on APUG who worked in a hospital in New Orleans and did LF photography in his off hours. He self published a book after Katrina (which I have a copy of but can't find at the moment) that documented the aftermath. One photo I vividly remember was a shot looking down at a child's toy or doll and a family photo stuck in mud and debris on a fireplace hearth -- a pretty gut wrenching example of an image that tells a story. He had a good eye, but I've not seen anything from him here in a long time.

Somebody who sees this may pop up more detail before I locate the book, I think the guy's first name was Sam and the book had a title along the lines of "After the Water." (Been doing some remodeling and redecorating here and too many things are displaced and/or stashed in boxes.)

And thanks for the link.
