Or news to me anyway, just got this email from Mitsubishi Imaging

This limited sale is ONLY for the enthusiasts of the digital negative art!

We will introduce TPF100 Premium Matte Transparency film on our website, but we are announcing it to you before the official launch.

The advantage of the product:

1) The matte surface will help alleviate the problem of Newton Rings when contact printing with some processes with a vacuum frame.

2) The matte surface facilitates the drawdown in a vacuum frame when contact printing with surfaces that are "tacky", such as photopolymers and possibly carbon, gelatin silver and others, where air bubbles may get trapped between the OHP and the slicker, more tacky surfaces.

The opacity is 30% which is about same opacity as Ultra Premium OHP Transparency film.

Unfortunately cut sheet products are not currently available.
Please note that the stock is limited for this exclusive sale.
Click the following links to see the price, specification and availability.
17" x 66' roll with 2" core and 24" x 66' roll with 2" core

If you have a request for different roll sizes, please contact us.

Colin,

I received a roll of this OHP to test a few months ago. As the release states the film has some type of coating on the base side. In the past some people have complained of getting Newton rings with some processes, carbon and photogravure being among them. The coating is designed to break the patterns that cause Newton rings. I made quite a number of prints with the new OHP over the summer and did not see any sign of Newton rings, either with carbon transfer or gold toned vandyke.

On the other hand Newton rings have never been a big problem in my printing with alternative processes. However, for people who have the coating on the base side should definitely eliminate them. Except for the coating on the base side this material looks like and acts like regular Pictorico.

FWIW, I never had any newton rings problems when I was using conventional contact printing frames, and I also (currently) don't have it with the vacuum frame of my NuArc 26-1KS. I mean, I could/can see some rings during the exposure, but they never register(ed) in the print...

Regards,
Loris.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Sandy. That's great that you were included in the beta testing. It's very evident that Mitsubishi is taking this market seriously.
