I have a Yashica Mat 124G in need of a little attention. I've read that Mark Hama is top notch and sent an email inquiry to him several days ago with no response. Is he still in business?

I am going to state a hypothesis that is probably incapable of actual proof.
The hypothesis is as follows: "the better the traditional/analogue camera repairer, the worse they are at email communication".
I'm sure that there are lots of examples where I am wrong.....

I've usually gotten emails back from him- except one time when I asked when I'd expect my Yashica mat 124g back. Nothing. But the camera came back and I was not charged.

Have you searched the archives?
Archives? I did a search for Yashica Mat 124g repair and that is where I got his name. I did an internet search and found his web site, but I've seen plenty of old sites that are out of date.

This is true in general and especially in Mark's case. He told me personally that he's no good with modern computer technology (paraphrasing). His computer died around that time and I think phone was the only way to reach him for weeks. I think he prefers the telephone anyway. He actually called me on Christmas morning a few years ago to tell me my camera was ready...

Yes, he is still in business. I got a quote from him Saturday for the repair of a Mimy. It may take several days for him to respond to your email. He’s either quite busy repairing cameras or, at his age, maybe slowing down a bit - I know i am.

Mr. Hama’s services are apparently in high demand, judging by the number of forum entries here and on other forums. I do hope he has help or has an apprentice in his shop. All us Yashica fans will be up a creek without a paddle if he decides to retire.

Stan.

It's been about two months and no word. I have a trip in about a month and a half. I reckon I'll call him after a month. He sure likes to make you sweat a little before he sends it back.

He just emailed me a repair estimate thursday, but I think it may be for something I already paid for. Haven't heard back yet and I'll probably end up calling him for the first time monday.

I got my camera back today. It had an alkaline battery in it. I had to call to ask if he had adjusted the light meter (yes, I know but I'm lazy and I use it sometimes) for the alkaline. He claims he did indeed. I'll probably replace it with a silver oxide though.

Define midday- I've tried 11 AMish and he wasn't at his office.
Keep in mind, you me and Mark are all in the same time zone.
I don't have a definition. Just saying it's not early in the morning or after dinnertime that I seem to hear from him. Also, he called me once on Christmas day to discuss my camera, so I don't think he keeps any sort of regular hours.
