Darko,
Your response was so categoric I had to take a look -- Ms. Bassman certainly made some interesting images. I can't say that they necessarily showed the fashion to greatest effect, but the overall "look" is intriguing and suggestive. I read that she threw out nearly all her negatives and prints in 1970's -- sort of the anti-Vivian Maier.
"Comparisons are odious". There are and have been many wonderful fashion photographers, I don't rate Testino to be one of them.
Enough to know that he's a workmanlike, competent and well regarded fashion photographer who was almost unknown before he photographed Princess Diana, he's certainly not "the greatest fashion photographer of all time" not compared with Avedon, Bassman, Parkinson Beaton and Bailey I.M.O. who are some of the best of all time. How much of his work have you seen?
Very true, people loose sight of the fact fashion photography is about the clothing.okay the tone is interesting ... the comments on the pictures, more so... anyone notice the coats?
