I've long been a fan of his work, but this is the only shot I can find of him with a camera. Anyone know what it is?

Thanks, I should have read further. I've never heard of the Boniforti Kobell so no surprise I didn't recognise it. Definitely one of my favourite photographers whose work is much imitated today.It is a Boniforti Kobell camera.

Focal plane shutter up to 1/1000 plus leaf shutter in exchangable lenses
seemingly there is a version without focal plane shutter too
You can see that in his model there seems a built-in release too.
