Hi, I am commercial photographer from New Jersey and I am shooting only tethered. I use Digital Director with 12.9” iPad for this purpose already for 1 year. And here is my experience. Overall the product is built on a good and convenient idea. It is connected to camera thru USB cable and supposed to work fast. 12.9” iPad screen is big enough and gives you great colors. Also it’s compact and can be easily transported. But there are some problems with it. First of all it hasn’t been updated since Feb 29, 2016. Although IOS was upgraded twice and now we are using IOS 11.2, Digital Director is not providing any support to its devices. Application crashes very frequently and significantly slows down during shoot. Reconnecting is also a huge problem. Sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes just to reconnect. You need to turn of camera, Digital director and close app and do this several times to make it work. Manfrotto actually burried its device by not updating its software. I am still using it as there is no other option for tethered shooting. I would appreciate if you could advice me what to use instead. I am using Canon 5D Mark III and IV.
