In the 1970's the Japanese made copies of Zeiss lenses that pushed the limits past what even many of the German samples could do.

I remember reading some place that these 100mm f2.8 Mamiya's could resolve up in the 90 lppm category. Don't hold me to that quote, I can't remember where I read it.

In any case, this was the flagship lens for the Mamiya Universal system of the late 1970's. It was an expensive upgrade from the 100 f3.5 Tessar that the camera came with. The 3.5 was no slouch, so it begged the question why you would buy one of these.

That is very likely precisely why these are hard to find now! This is the latest all black version, and the coatings, although no one was saying so yet, I believe may be multi-coatings. Where all of my older Mamiya lenses had straw colored coatings, this one has blues and pinks and purples and straw colors.

The glass seems to be perfect, and so does the shutter. It's running sweet. The only thing negative to report is a minor ding on the front filter ring. It's very tight, so I have installed a 72 - 77mm stepping ring that simply stays put.

I'm asking $285.00 + $11 shipping in USA. More to other places. PayPal is available.

Is this the one you told me you might be able to dig up when I was picking up the big enlarger? Man, do I want it...but I'm saving my pennies to upgrade digital equipment at the moment, out of – blah – necessity. Good luck, Jim.

That be it! I stayed up late last night putting it back together. Heck you can buy digi crap any time. These are sort of scarce. :D

I know, I know......but I really need it for work...or else I don't get the work! My photo bosses say 6 Mpix doesn't cut it any more. (Dumb, I know. They are not the most technically savvy people, but I am not going to argue with my employers.) And I have already agreed to buy one, so I cannot back out.

I've owned that lens and can attest to it's incredible resolution. It's quite punchy and is sharp at pretty much every stop--the lighting flares look brilliant to,

Do it.
