Mamiya TLR Lenses...help

Hello All,
I have received 2 different lenses, a 135mm and a 65mm, for my 220 TLR and they both have the same problem. They will not fire. I can cock both lenses by pressing down on the lever next to the shutter speeds but when I press on the shutter release nothing happens. I then have to apply a little pressure to the shutter speed lever and then they fire. Am I doing something wrong??
I have an 80mm lens that came with the camera and on or off the body it fires when the shutter is cocked and the release lever is pressed. No fiddling with the shutter lever to get it to fire.
Please help.

Some times the release on the body does not have enough travel. I don't believe that release is adjustable.

If you look at where the release contacts the shutter trip lever, there's a post. Try heating a short piece of aquarium tubing (with a hair dryer) and put it over the post. Should provide just enough additional downward movement.

You could also try wrapping tape around the post, but that's soooooo less elegant then the tubing.

Sounds to me the shutters need cleaning. The old lube is mucking up the gear trains.

I think it is the shutter itself. The release works with my 80mm lens on the camera. The 2 lenses do not fire on or off the camera body.

This shouldn't have a large affect, but you might want to check where the flash synch lever is set on the two problem lenses. If it is between the M and X settings, it might be a source of problems. Also be sure that the shutter speed setting dial isn't loose and our of position.

As with mgb74, I also have had this problem which I believe is due to the same explanation... not enough clearance/travel. It's not a huge problem for me as I merely use the shutter release anyway. I've never tried to fix it and I have noticed the problem only with my 55mm, not the 80mm. Thats my story, for what it's worth!

I misunderstood. Didn't realize that it happens both on and off camera.

How long have you had the lenses? Leaf shutters are like my left knee - if not exercised relatively frequently, they tend to "gum" up. So first thing I'd do is fire the shutters about 30-50 times at various speeds to see if that helps.

If not, then perhaps it's CLA time. I'd suggest Paul Ebel (651-335-8759).

Check that none of the levers are bent and that they're centred in the slots. I had a 80mm lens that wouldn't fire and that was the problem - a gentle pressure to unbend the lever was the solution.

It sounds like both of the lenses need to be CLAed.

I had the same problem with my 65mm and 250mm. The equipment has sat too long without being used.
