Mamiya Super Deluxe

Howdy, APUG network!
My friend has a Mamiya Super Deluxe that I will be given soon. I have and frequently use a Fujica V2, which is a fun, awesome camera to use, and it doesn't require a battery to fire the shutter; it's only for the meter. Is this also the case with the Mamiya Super Deluxe?
I've been trying to ascertain if it needs a battery, but cannot find concrete info.

Mechanical shutter. Battery for meter only. Replacements available for discontinued PX625 battery. - David Lyga

The meter is a top panel match-needle type. You can do without it. This is actually a big camera. My sister used one for years, and really enjoyed it.
