I have one of those 80's Japan Strats.. The story behind them is that there was a factory fire somewhere and all the material was destroyed so The American Fender plant supplied the Japan plant with American Standard parts and that why the Japan Strats are of high quality.. At least that's what i heard..

They are a beautiful guitar. I don't want to part with it, but I might. The biggest hurdle has been finding what's the "fair value" for it. It needs to be played, and I just don't play it that often anymore. At one time I played 10+ hours a day. Now maybe 1 hour a month, and that's with my Tele. I already have the same set up as you except the body isn't a pro II.
