Hi guys.

Wanted to see if I can get any advice with my RZ67 proii that has developed an issue.

Only had the camera 10 days. Did some test rolls on 2 different film backs initially and images came back all good, no issues.

Did a shoot today with it, using the same 2 backs, and something is odd with it all of a sudden.

The shutter will only fire in emergency mode/orange dot. In normal mode the orange shutter light comes on when trying to depress the shutter and I can't fire it. I don't hear any beeping at all.

The dark slide is removed and I have tried with everything off the camera. And yet the orange light comes on in normal mode.

I tried a tip of emergency mode, with the lens on , and set to M, at 4 seconds. The mirror lifts and stays up.

So I think its electrical rather than a mechanical issue.

The film advance lever spins the spool on both backs ok. I have also tried new batteries. Both lenses are on N mode too.
The advance lever is being pushed fully forward.

The only thing I haven't tried is running film through it, but the camera should release the shutter without film anyhow.

So at a loss on what the issue is here? The camera is under a warranty with the shop so I can return it for a refund if needs be.
Any help appreciated.

I’d start by installing a new battery.

Read all of the cautions on page 19 carefully, especially the Note: in the box at the lower left.

See page 20 in the RZ67 Pro II manual.

https://www.butkus.org/chinon/ free camera manual library from: (cameramanuals.org)

It says

Orange Lamp:

The cocking lever has not been advanced or

The roll film holder had not been advanced

(Does not apply when in multi-exposure “M” mode)

You might try to release the cocking lever and stroke again. Sometimes the RZ requires just a bit more stroke of the cocking lever to complete the cocking action. You’d release the lever and stroke a second time all the way until it stops. If it wasn’t completely cocked the first time, the second stroke all the way to the stop will complete the action.

If this doesn’t work, then the camera will likely need servicing.

Lenses with Seiko electronic shutter are MECHANICALLY activated to open the shutter, the electrical signal from body timing circuit to lens is what CLOSES it.
Medium format bodies using Seiko shutters employ a complex series of mechanical actions within the body in order for the lens to be opened...a generic description:
  1. Film blind must be removed from the filmback, releasing the interlock
  2. Film-advanced interlock in filmback must push into the body the right amount to activate the mechanism in the body...too far, or not far enough, can both account for no-fire
  3. Reflex mirror must flip up fully to permit the shutter activation lever to move, to engage the arm in the lens
