Mamiya RZ67 65mm f4 L-A v 50mm f4.5 ULD ?

Which of these two lenses do you think would make the best choice for my first wide lens ? Thanks in advance as usual for any feedback or advice, much appreciated

Flip a coin! They're both fine lenses.
Used, they both cost about the same, with [maybe] the 65mm slightly less then the 50mm.

With 35mm cameras, do you prefer images taken with a 24-28mm lens(?); if so, get the 50.
Or, do you prefer images taken with a 30-35mm lens(?); then get the 65.

Various versions of this discussion have been had here before. If you were comparing to the non-ULD version of the 50, I would say go with the 65, which I adore. But the 50 ULD is very special. If the ULD is in your budget, I'd say go for it. As someone with 3 RBs, I got an RZ specifically for the 50 uld and the 110/2.8. All my other needs are met very well with the RB system.

Personally, my interests tend toward longer lenses rather than wider. To me, the perfect RZ kit is 65 / 110 / 210. But if you favour more environmental shots and might want to do more cropping then you may well want to go wider.

Nothing to apologize for from either of these lenses- they're both superb.

Note that you can pick up the latest version of the RB 65 in great condition for next to nothing... and it is also a superb lens. You'd merely have to choose the times on the lens rather than on the RZ body, that's all.

Where? I've been thinking about upgrading to the K/L from my non-c version.

If it's the one I saw, it's the standard, non ULD version,
though it looked like a very nice lens.

I see them come up on ebay all the time, and also (less frequently now) at KEH.

As mentioned, both are excellent, can't go wrong with either. Ideally, have both.

What are you asking? We cannot inform as to your artistic choices. Either you want a 50mm perspective or a 65mm perspective (assuming this because you ask only about these lenses). Asking about lens perspective is not unlike asking forum members to choose the subject of your photograph either. These are choices only you can make.

I love the 65mm f4 L-A, the image quality never fails to amaze me to be honest. I shoot with that and the 110mm f2.8 which is also superb. Since I got the RZ67 i've found myself hardly using my D3's & D700's apart from shooting weddings, for my own pleasure it's virtually all medium format for me now !
