Please excuse the naivety of a newbie APUG subscriber/medium format user. My 'problem' is that when I use a double cable release on my Mamiya RZ, the mirror doesn't return until the film is advanced. Is this to be expected or have I missed something? Thank you.

Is this to be expected? Yes! Have I missed something? No! Unlike virtually all 35 mm SLRs, the Mamiya does not have an instant-return mirror. It only comes down again to allow subject viewing when you wind the shutter and film.
Same for Bronica. Unlike the RZ on cocking, the mirror
remains up until the mode lever is reset for normal
operation. Dual triggering is not required. Dan

Which Bronica do you mean? My EC and ECTL both have an instant return mirror (and mirror up lock, or is that mirror lock-up?).
I guess the RZ67 doesn't have an instant return because of the size and mass of the mirror.
MU, Mirror Up is usual. I'm so much in MU mode I don't
recall weather or not the ETRSi has instant mirror return
when not in MU mode. I do know that when in MU mode
the mirror does stay up. Dan
