Mamiya RB67proS / lenses compatibility question

Hi,

I have RBproS with Sekor C 127/3,8 lens. Now, as my brother will go to USA in June, I plan to to buy some lenses. I know this kind of question was asked several time before, but I am particulary interested in my second question, as I never was 100% shure if I understood that issue correctly. So, my questions are:

1. As I understand ALL RB lenses/bodies are compatibile (I mean lenses for RB are compatibile with RBproS, and lenses for RBproSD are compatibile with RBproS). Is that true?

2. I have heard (read) that some of the RB lenses must have some Mamiya adapter to be able to be mounted on RB bodies. Is that true, and if it is what lenses must have adapter to be mounted on RBproS body?

My plan is to buy 65mm, 180mm, and will see depending of avaliable money maybe 150mm SOFT and/or 250mm. I am not into macro work, so I don't think 140mm MACRO will be in my plan...

I also plan to buy some light shade(s) for lens(es). What is good, and is comprendium worth of buying? Does is fit to all lenses (diameters)?

I will tell my brother first to look at KEH. What are other worthly sources?

Any other advice will be appreciated.

1. - You are correct.

2. - Never heard of an adapter to mount RB lenses to an RB body of any kind.

If you look on KEH's website, once you go to the RB67 section and choose Fixed Lenses, all of the lenses in that list will fit all of the RB bodies. Lens hoods are cheap. If memory serves me, one lens hood will work for focal lenghts of 127-250. You will need a seperate one for the 65mm, which you can use for either the 50mm or the 65mm. You can get them very cheap, less than $10 US.

Arn't there two lenses that only work of the pro-sd, The shift and a 500mm?

And I belive that the adaptor you are thinking of is for the Pro-sd, a spacer of somekind to insure a good fit of the c and older lenses in the wider mouth of the sd.

When they made the Pro-SD they increased the lens mount bore 7mm from 54mm to 61mm to accomodate the 75mm shift and 500mm lenses. In order to use any other RB lens on the SD you need the adapter. You cannot use the 75 shift and 500 on the older RB's.

Well I was partly right, there is some kind of adapter for RB cameras, as egdinger and waynecrider explained

And in track of theire answers, what is solution for RBproS to use shift lenses? Are there PC control lenses for that camera, or some adapter. As I can remember there is adpter for Hasselblad, which with some non PC control lenses transform those lenses into PC control lenses. Is there such gadget for RBproS?

The adapter for using lenses - other than the two particular lenses mentioned above - on a RBproSD is recommended, but the lenses will mount just fine without the adapter; the bayonet is the same. Check out the user manual which is available online.

That's exactly what I knew but wasn't daring to write, as I own an older model and couldn't try by myself.

Thank you all. I am just about to check manuals which I know I can get on Mamiya USA web site, but as I understand fact is:

RB lenses adapter is recommended to use with RBproSD camera, for shift and 500mm is must on RBproSD, but with RBproS adapter is not needed.

Just to make sure that we mean the same thing:

On the original RB or ProS: The adapter isn't needed and it can't be used since the mount bore is too small. Likewise the shift and the 500 can not be used on these cameras since theese lenses have mounts that are too big to fit the mount bore in the camera body.

On the ProSD: The shift and the 500 can be used. For other lenses, the adapter is recomended, but the lenses will mount without it. Basicly the adapter fills the space between the lens and the enlarged mount bore in the body. I have a ProSD body, and am using a 90/3.8 lens without the adapter, and I haven't noticed any problems so far.
