I purchased a Mamiya rb67 as my first medium format camera. The first roll I shot, turned out great.
It came with 2 backs so I loaded both, the next time I wanted to shoot.
After a few frames it wouldn't actuate, as though it was the end of the roll. I couldn't figure out why,
so I switched backs. Same result. Maybe 4 frames, then wouldn't fire.
Anyone know what the problem might be?

Don't be insulted, but did you remember the dark slide and to advance the film separately? I forget the dark slide constantly.

There is also a shutter lock around the shutter release. Check that.

When you say it didn't fire, what did you mean? Were you able to cock it?

Was it the button that wouldn;t press? There's an outer ring the shutter release button that locks the shutter. Check if you didn;t inadvertently turn and lock it.

Is the dark slide removed for shooting?

ARe all the interlocks "free".?

You can download the Mamiya manuals from Butkus. Select the right one as there are different models of the RB67.

I think, it wouldn't cock. It's been a while now and I'll have to double check that.
Thanks Alan

...time to try a few things so you can trace the problem.
Remove the back from the body - will the camera fire? Does the lens shutter operate? Is the shutter cocking, can you cock and release unmounted from the body?

Also, is this a 'Pro' or a 'Pro S'?

Make sure that you are advancing the shutter cocking lever all the way. If you don't quite complete the action, the lever will return to its resting place, but the camera won't function. Most often this would happen to me if I allowed the neck strap to get in the way.

You must read the RB67 manual and understand it fully before using the camera. Please don't be offended by my comment.

There are many interlocks in the camera and you must perfectly know how to operate it before considering there is any problem.
