I took delivery of a Mamiya DSX 500 with a 50/2 SX lens yesterday. I'm sure I had at least one of these already in my SX collection. My question is about the top shutter speed. On the DSX 500 it's 1/500. When Minolta sold the SRT 100 and Konica sold the Autoreflex A, both cameras had a top shutter speed of 1/500. What I read at the time was that the shutter mechanisms were not different from the cameras with a top speed of 1/1000. There was just a mechanical stop on the shutter speed dial to prevent 1/1000 from being engaged. If get the DSX 500 overhauled, can I just have the repairman put on a shutter speed dial from a DSX 1000 and make any necessary adjustments so my 500 DSX can have a top speed of 1/1000?
